As an inconvenient truth, global warming is affecting our world. But who can physically feel the effects of global warming on a daily basis? Sure, this summer may have been a couple degrees hotter than the last summer, but do the majority of humans really notice this difference? The human species is undeniably at fault for global warming but we are not necessarily the ones who have to cope with its effects. One of the regions most drastically affected by global warming is the Arctic Circle. And who lives there? Polar bears. Studies have shown that over the last 20 years, polar bear populations have dropped nearly 25 percent. Not only have they dropped in numbers, scientists have also noticed that...

Many may not believe that we, as people, have an affect on changes within the climate. It is a rather difficult concept to grasp. However, we can do things to prevent the devastating changes that are occurring in our environment. Global warming is a term that is frequently used to describe the rising temperatures that are occurring in our world. Lately, this has seemingly grown in popularity. It has been found that it can produce many negative reactions in our world. As the planet heats up, ice melts away. When the ice melts away, the levels of the sea start to increase. Global warming is a result of many years of neglect by people to the planet. It is not too late to stop the issue of this from...

There was nothing in it that alarmed me as my wife, who is a painter, has friends all over the World and somebody or the other is always visiting her. But when she told me that Sarah was an astrophysicist, my ears perked up. She had missed me during her visit last year as I was out of town.      Sarah arrived wearing a gorgeous sari looking like a senior accomplished stately woman. Indians like me are now used to a white woman in a sari with years of watching Sonia Gandhi on the TV. With Sarah was her friend Needra, a young tall dark beautiful Sri Lankan woman who too was an...

The only constant thing in life is change. But what do you think, change is good or change is bad. The answer of this question would be certain changes are good while certain are not. The changes that bring positive results are definitely for good sake and the changes that result in some negative consequences are not good. Global warming is also a change that brings lots of negative consequences. It is said that main reason of global warming is the emission of greenhouse gases. Ranging from decades to hundreds and thousands of years, the green house gases can stay in the atmosphere for a number of years. No matter what we do for stopping the effects of global warming, some effects of climate warming...

People everywhere are arguing about what is causing the polar icecaps to melt and all the icebergs around the world. It is happening at a much more rapid rate than we expected and it seems that are showing so signs of stopping. What does all this melting ice mean for the world? What effects will it have on our planet over time? Is there anything that we can do to stop it or is it already too late to do anything about it? Even scientists are disagreeing about the cause of all the melting ice. Some of them are adamant that is because of the global warming that we humans have caused, yet other scientists believe that it is a natural warming trend of the world that has probably taken place before in...

Human civilization has never seen such a threat before so our efforts are not well organized or least to say is in tatters. All prominent world leaders and figures are coming together at international forums to gather a common consensus. The only thing left or missing over here is the participation of everyday people from life. Unless this section of society is not concerned, there is no need to talk or discuss at length. History bears evidence to the fact that any movement which was less populated in the number of individuals involved, it lost...

The Earth is being heated by the Sun every day. Almost 174,000 Terawatts of energy hits the Earth. One Terawatt is equal to one million megawatts! So the Sun is heating the Earth with 174 billion megawatts of energy! Of this, about 30% is reflected back due to the white reflectivity of the Earth which is known in science as the albedo effect. So the net energy absorbed by the Earth is 122 Terawatts. If so much energy is being absorbed by the Earth, it should continue to heat up and its temperature must continue to rise constantly. Within days the temp should surpass the maximum that any life could bear. All life would die and the trees whither and char. But this does not happen. The Earth has its...

Trees are very essential that absorb the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and help to keep the planet cool. Due to the increase of temperature, the whole planet is suffering like anything. In order to reduce climate warming, planting tree is the best thing humans can do. CO2 increases greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming. We all contribute to global warming every day. Carbon Footprints are made up of two parts, the direct or primary footprint and the indirect or secondary footprint. The primary footprint is a measure of our direct emissions of CO2 from the burning of fossil fuels. These are probably the biggest contributors to your Carbon Footprint; they include electricity consumption and transportation. The secondary footprint is a measure of indirect CO2 emissions from the entire lifecycle of products we use - from...
